Tooth Whitening – with Home Bleaching
At McKennell dental Practice we offer tooth bleaching which is a well-established and fairly predictable procedure to lighten the colour of your teeth. It is a non-invasive system which involves taking impressions of your teeth to make a custom made tray into which you place the tooth whitening gel and then place the tray around your teeth.
Treatment is usually four to six weeks.
No one can predict how much lighter your teeth will become as every case is different. Typically there will be a two-shade improvement on the dentist’s shade guide (Vita), this success rate depends on the type of stain and your compliance.
How long will it last?
The tooth whitening procedure will permanently whiten your teeth, however, if the initial causes of discoloration are still present they will slowly re-stain your teeth. These include smoking, tea, coffee, red wine, red berries, chocolate and some soft drinks.
A re—bleaching top-up can usually be undertaken using the original tray provided. This will not be as costly as the initial treatment and would normally entail one or two nights use every one to five years.
